The third round draw for the Asian Cup took place in Kuala Lumpur on Monday night. Taiwan were among twenty-four nations placed into six groups of four. The Blue Wings were drawn in Group D along with Thailand, Turkmenistan and Sri Lanka.

Each team will play every other team in their group home and away. The winners of each group will advance to the 2027 Asian Cup that will be hosted by Saudi Arabia.

This is obviously a difficult group to have been drawn into, although Taiwan can have little room for complaint. Indeed, seeding for these groups was based on each country’s FIFA rankings at the start of December. With only one victory in eight games, Taiwan were always going to be among the sides rounding out a group.
