For the second time in three days, Taiwan’s womens team lost 4-0 to an opponent that looked better on paper and who then confirmed as much on the field.
China were coming into 2025 having only played four games during the previous year. But any hopes from Taiwan that the Steel Roses would be rusty coming into this tournament were shown to be dashed after China’s impressive, albeit fiery 1-1 draw with Canada.
Indeed, China were coming into this game with momentum and took the lead on the twentieth minute after an own goal from Taiwan centre-back, Deng Peilin. That lead was then doubled in the 39th minute when striker Shao Ziqin got on the scoresheet.
China kept coming and in the second half, added two more goals. Five minutes after halftime, Li Mengwen made it 3-0. On the 76th minute, Shanghai Shengli midfielder Zhang Xin added a fourth goal.
In a game that (sadly) received minimal coverage in either country, the exact reports of what happened are relatively limited. So to is the lack of stats, although this will be updated if they are made available.
