Due to unexpected circumstances, Taiwan’s mens national team will suddenly have an additional game for the 2025 schedule.
On Friday, an eagled-eyed pundit at Chinese language outlet GoGoal noticed that Kuwait had withdrawn itself from games with Lebanon and hosts Indonesia in a three-team friendly tournament set to be played next week.
It is understood that the Indonesian FA reached out to their Taiwanese counterparts some time last week about replacing the Kuwaitis. Although it took until Monday for the CTFA to confirm the fixture, the Blue Wings are indeed headed to Indonesia for the game.
In October, Taiwan will play Thailand in a critical home-and-away series as part of the AFC Finals qualification. Adding a warm-up game in the build-up is a smart bit of business by the CTFA and also allows newly hired head coach, Huang Zheming, the chance to experiment with players and formations.
According to the schedule, Taiwan will play Indonesia on September 5th at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in the city of Surabaya. Kick-off is at 9pm Taiwan time.
Given that this game has been scheduled on very short notice, Taiwan will not be calling up their overseas-based players and instead bringing a side drawn entirely from the country’s domestic league.
