Mulan League Recap: Round 8

AC Taipei: 3 – Taipei Bravo: 0

A top drawer performance from Sarah Matsuyama helped her side breeze past the Mulan League’s basement dwellers. AC Taipei got going just before halftime when Matsuyama firmly headed in Chen Yu-an‘s cross from the right hand side.

The goals came similarly late in the second half. In the eighty-third minute, Lin Yi-wen left-sided cross was polished off from close range by Matsuyama for her second goal. Four minutes later, the Japanese forward locked up her hat-trick as she latched onto a long ball from Tseng Yun-ching before rounding the keeper and rolling it into an empty net.

Kaohsiung Attackers: 2 – Hang Yuan: 2

Top of the table Huan Yuan left southern Taiwan with a point after an end-to-end battle with Kaohsiung. The home side were ahead within three minutes when Liang Kai-jou escaped her marker to head home from a corner.

Hang Yuan then found an equalizer via a fantastic goal from Pu Hsin-hui, who deftly controlled Kano Miyamoto’s through-ball, before jinking past a defender and curling an unstoppable shot past the Kaohsiung keeper.

Hang Yuan then took the lead when Miyamoto set up Miwa Tanaka for a first-time shot that went off the post before rolling into the net. But with three minutes left to play, Ting Chi made the most of a defensive error and ran onto a hopeful long ball before cooly placing the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.

Taichung Blue Whale: 1 – Hualien FC: 1

Taichung missed out on the chance to go move up to first place after dropping points to lowly Hualien. After both sides had good chances, Hualien finally broke the deadlock when Li Chun-mei riffled home a shot from just outside the penalty box. The goal was somewhat controversial as the referee appeared to ignore a foul in the build up to the play.

With time running out, Taichung were handed a lifeline when Hualien’s keeper miscalculated the trajectory of a shot and dropped the ball at the feet of Saowalak Pengngam. But having poked in the tying goal, Taichung couldn’t get another and thus gave up top spot in the table to Hang Yuan.

Valkyrie: 1 – Taichung Sakura: 2

Valkyrie gave themselves a chance but ultimately fell away to Sakura, who scored early and eventually found a way to get the win. With fourteen minutes played, Lai Li-chin’s long pass fell perfectly for the onrushing Lee Hsiu-chin, and the Sakura captain did well to hold off the defender and score with the outside of her boot.

The homeside would level the game just before halftime when Fu Chih-ling scored from close range. But Taichung put the game to bed with thirty minutes to play after Ho Hsuan-yi latched onto a hopeful long-ball before drawing the keeper off her line and finishing firmly for the winning goal.
