The Chinese Taipei Football Association (CTFA) has a new chairman, effective immediately. On Saturday, Chang Tsan– who ran unopposed for the role— was voted in at a special CTFA meeting and will lead Taiwan’s football association for at least the next eight months. Chang is also the chairman of Valkyrie FC, a team in Taiwan’s domestic women’s league and has been heavily involved in grassroots football on the island for several years.
After being confirmed as chairman, Chang announced immediate dialogue with the mens and women’s domestic competitions about attracting further sponsorship and developing the leagues in general. There would also be a outreach program aimed at getting feedback from grassroots football organizations across the island.
As Chang has inherited the role towards the end of a four-year session, he will only serve eight months before presumably seeking re-election in 2026.
With his election, Chang now becomes CTFA chairman at his second attempt. In 2022, Chang lost narrowly to Cheng Wen-tsan, the former mayor of Taoyuan. When Cheng stepped away from the role in 2023, the position was filled by Wang Lin-xiang until he also resigned last October amid growing frustration at the CTFA’s management of the national team.
Besides working with the country’s two domestic leagues, Chang will be aiming to support both national teams for their upcoming games. The women’s side will be flying to Australia for the AFC Finals in early March. That same month, the mens side have their final game in their own 2026 AFC Finals qualification group. Although the Blue Wings have no chance of winning the group, a victory against Sri Lanka means Taiwan would avoid going winless during group play.
