In an unusually tight round of games, only one game saw more than a single goal as all eight of Taiwan’s top men’s teams try to stay focused as the league enters its final few games of the season. With three top teams now emerging, every game will be critical as things go down to the wire.
AC Taipei: 1 – Taipower: 0
Taipower’s nightmare season continued with a narrow loss to third place AC Taipei. Both sides had several good chances to open the scoring before AC finally ended the deadlock deep into injury time. Having first jinked Wu Yu-fan into another zipcode, Jun Uchida‘s cross from the left was headed firmly by Yang Chia-pao and into the net.
That being said, keeper Chang Hsiang-chun will probably feel he could have done more to save the shot and his slight error underlines a tough run of games where Taipower have lost eight of their last ten games and now sit in second-from-bottom place.
Ming Chuan: 2 – Hang Yuan: 3
Hang Yuan remain in second place but where made to sweat against bottom side Ming Chuan. National team player Kang Tae-won got things going with twenty-one minutes played, when his carefully placed shot went in off the post for the lead. Kang was involved in his team’s second as his backheel in the box led to another backheel from Shingo Koreda before Naoki Kaneko fired home from the edge of the box.
Damien Zabramba Gael‘s acrobatic overhead kick from close range gave Ming Chuan a way back into the game before Koreda restored Hang Yuan’s two goal advantage from the penalty spot with fifty-eight minutes played. A converted spot kick from Ming Chuan’s Pui-Hei Ng made the game 3-2 but to their credit, Hang Yuan controlled the game’s final twenty minutes without too much drama.
Taichung Futuro: 0 – Taichung Rock: 1
A fiesty, physical Taichung derby was decided in the 89th minute when Tseng Yun-hao nodded home Tsou Yu-chieh‘s looping free kick. The two teams swap places as a result of the rivalry clash, with Futuro moving down to fifth and their neighbours moving up to fourth in the standings
Tainan City: 1 – Tatung: 0
League leaders Tainan stay top of the league on goal difference after a late winner against a committed Tatung side. Yao Ko-chi was the fastest to react when Jhon Benchy‘s deflected through ball spun across the edge of the penalty box and the midfielder cooly rounded the keeper before slotting home the game’s only goal.
Tatung will feel they could have had a penalty in midway through the second half after a foul in the box went unnoticed but Tainan– who also hit the bar in injury time– were able to see out eight minutes of extra time to claim the win.
