The draw for the Inter-Confederation Play-offs was made this afternoon and now the Taiwanese womens team know who they will face in their final opportunity to qualify for the Womens World Cup in 2027.

With six weeks to go before the start of the 20th Asian games– which function as a continental equivalent to the Olympic Games– Taiwan now know who they will be playing in the group stages for the womens’ football section.

Taiwan’s womens team came close but couldn’t get it done in an extra-time thriller against South Korea. Two debatable penalties– one given and one not– played a major role in the game’s outcome as the Mulan stood tall but ultimately were eliminated from the EAFF Finals qualification.

After a relaxed approach to their first game, Taiwan took the gloves off for their second encounter with the Northern Mariana Islands in the qualifying tournament for the EAFF Finals. Chang Chi-lan had a hat trick and two assists whilst twenty-year old He Jia-shiuan also scored three in a total rout for the Mulan.

In the first of their two games in their EAFF Finals qualifiers, Taiwan women cruised to a comfortable win against the Northern Mariana Islands. Besides the goals, Taiwan had several good moments but the reality was that the Marianans played like a team determined to keep the scoreline respectable rather win the game.

In a move that felt inevitable, the CTFA have confirmed that the new coach of the women’s national will be Patrick De Wilde. The hugely experienced Belgian manager had been the rumored the top target for several weeks following the firing of previous coach, Prasobchoke Chokemor. As noted in our previous post on the search…
