Another day, another bit of good news for Taiwan’s womens’ team. Having recently landed in a very winnable group for the AFC Cup Qualifiers, the Mulan have now also been upgraded to automatic participants in the forthcoming EAFF Cup.
The bi-annual regional tournament, which is run by the East Asian Football Federation (EAFF), will be held in South Korea this June. Although the Taiwan mens’ team will not be playing in the event following their heartbreaking loss to Hong Kong last December, the womens’ team will after it was confirmed that North Korea will not be participating.
Back in 2023, the North Korean women’s side thumped Taiwan 5-0 in the final qualifying match to join hosts South Korea, China and Japan. However, the North Korean decision to withdraw from the tournament means that Taiwan will be the replacement nation.
Taiwan have previously participated in the EAFF tournament twice, in 2010 and 2022. The additional three games will ensure the women’s team stays busy throughout the summer, with AFC qualifiers late June and now EAFF tournament play in July.
