Chokemor Out Amid Sweeping CTFA Changes

In a recent meeting of CTAFA officials, a number of major decisions were announced that will affect both national teams and also the domestic scene

Arguably the most notable announcement was the immediate removal of women’s national team coach, Prasobchoke Chokemor. The Thai national had been the women’s coach going into the most recent AFC women’s Finals, but after an explosive statement from the Taiwanese women’s players union criticizing Chokemor’s handling of the team, the CTFA have stepped in to completely overhaul the coaching set up.

According to SETN, concerns about the coaching set-up had been raised to CTFA officials even before the team left for the AFC tournament in Australia. Chokemor had initially been the interim coach after the sudden resignation of popular head coach Chan Hui-ming, who had quit in response to what he saw as a lack of support from the CTFA administration at the time. Chokemor was then upgraded to full-time head coach in time for the AFC Finals after two games in charge.

Multiple media outlets suggest that the preferred replacement is now Patrick De Wilde. The sixty-two year old Belgian is a hugely experienced coach at both the domestic and national level. Most recently in charge of Icelandic womens’ club, Íþróttafélagið Völsungur, was also the head coach of the Nepalese women’s team, where he worked alongside current Taiwan mens coach, Matt Ross.

Another major development will be the proposal overhaul of the Taiwanese Premier league, which operates as the top men’s league in the country. Under the new proposals reported by LTN, the league will expand to 10 teams with an intentional home and an away design for the 2026/27 season. A long-term drive to make the league, fully professional is also heavily rumoured.

Other note worthy revelations include the ongoing attempts to resolve the CTFA’s financial issues. Chang Tsan, who now heads the country’s football administration, confirmed in a TSNA report that the CTFA was roughly NTD 87,0000, 0000 ($2.7m USD) in debut but that amount as already been reduced greatly in recent months.
