De Wilder In As Mulan Head Coach

In a move that felt inevitable, the CTFA have confirmed that the new coach of the women’s national will be Patrick De Wilde. The hugely experienced Belgian manager had been the rumored the top target for several weeks following the firing of previous coach, Prasobchoke Chokemor.

As noted in our previous post on the search for a new national team coach, De Wilde was heavily fancied by the CTA due to his experience in both domestic and national team football. He is also experienced within Asian football and is known to key figures within the CFTA having coached the Nepelese women’s team at the same time as current Taiwan’s mens national team coach, Matt Ross, was in charge of the Nepal mens side.

De Wilde will need to hit the ground running as he has three different tournaments to prepare for; 12 and three. His experience will be key, both for the team’s results on the field but also for calming disquiet within the roster itself after they essentially ousted the previous manager due to public criticism of his methods.

The length of the contract is unclear, but it will likely encompass the rest of 2026 and possible World Cup participation if the women qualify for the World Cup in Brazil in 2027.
